As a soldier in apartheid South Africa, he once faced an order to fire on schoolchildren. Already a Christian, he refused in his heart and prayed—watching the crowd disperse without violence. Years later, while preaching in a hostile township, a 12-year-old girl’s fearless act of holding up his Bible silenced a mob, proving that God’s love can overcome even the deepest racial divides.

Growing up in segregated Mississippi, his family’s warnings and personal experiences planted seeds of racial hatred. Joining the Black Panthers as a teen, he was set on revenge—until a trembling boy’s humanity changed his heart. Years later, addiction, prison, and deep racial wounds tested him again, but faith in Christ became the only way to rise above hate and see all people as part of God’s family.

Despite his strong faith, character, and intentions, he’s been judged solely by the color of his skin. Rejected by his wife’s family, misunderstood by strangers, and burdened by generational injustice, he still chooses integrity, love, and a faith in Jesus who understands both privilege and oppression.

A great-great-grandson of a slave who lived homeless for 14 years, he found God after walking 27 miles to a ministry. Now a minister and mentor, he uses his story to inspire hope and unity in his community.
