We didn’t have enough money to move, really. We felt like the Lord was saying, “Just go,” so we just decided to go. But, in my own kind of lack of trust, I thought, “Well I’m going to book all of these shows, to get to Nashville. I’m going to book all of these shows, and then that’s going to pay for us to move essentially, so it’s like just crazy because two weeks before we left, all of them got canceled. Every last one and for like, real crazy reasons. I looked at my wife, and I said, “Do you think that this is the Lord saying that we are not supposed to go? I feel like we got a confirmation together.” She was like, “Yeah, I feel like we are still supposed to go.” So I said, “Okay.” So we just left. I had no shows booked. I had no nothing. We didn’t have enough money to get to Nashville, so it was like, “Alright Lord, let’s see what you can do.”
Day 1, we needed to get to San Bernardino so we could get to Phoenix the next day, and um, I just started calling. I was calling friends. I remember getting a phone call, and a pastor in San Bernardino being like, “Man, I can’t really pay you a whole lot, but I can pay you two or three hundred bucks. How does that sound?” I said, “Man, anything will help. Anything will work. Can I sell merch too?” He was like, “Yeah man, totally.” So I go and we make literally enough money to get us to Phoenix.
We get to Phoenix, and I call and basically get two shows in Phoenix which pays for us to get all the way to Oklahoma City. The house we stayed at in Albuquerque gave us a washer and dryer. I had a guy that walked up, and he handed me a cd and said, “I’d like to purchase this.” I said, “Cool man, yeah it’s five dollars.” He was like, “Okay, cool.” He swiped his card, and on the checkout slip on my app, on my square app on my phone, um, it said three hundred and fifty dollars. I was like, “Oh man, you must have put something wrong in because this is way, a lot of money.” And he was like, “Man, no, I uh, I felt God tell me that you really need this right now.”
I worked as a valet downtown in Nashville for two years. So my life and my wife’s life was pretty hectic. She was working two jobs, and we were not going to be able to pay our rent, at all. I was really scared because I have not ever, not paid for something ever, and I was valet at a songwriters place. I was talking to a friend that I was working with about how stressed I was about rent. The guy who I was parking his car, he wrote me a check for five hundred dollars that night and said, “Man, I feel like you need this more than I do. Go pay your rent.”
Dude, I’m literally, I mean, I’m really humbled by how much the Lord has mapped my life out because we had our baby and three months later, my song went number one.
So I mean, it’s humbling, and I don’t really have a whole lot of words besides just I’m very thankful.
Anything that was stressful I feel like the Lord has always just kind of been like, “Shush…here’s a multitude of provision over you. Just don’t worry about that stuff.”
